nFADP from a Practical Perspective

During this event Livio di Tria will start the session presenting the different documents that a private company should have in its midst: internal (data breach response plan, the data subject rights management plan, any SCCs, the impact analysis, the register of processing activities) and external documents (outsourcing contract or the privacy policy). His talk will include practical advice on how to get the "paperwork" done to be ready until the 1st of September 2023.
Zarmine Hussain will be talking specifically about the data controller’s requirements with respect to security measures and its obligations in the event of a data breach. Through this discussion she would introduce the obligations pursuant to the nFADP and the OPDo and the consequences resulting from the infringement of such requirements. With respect to the data breach, she will be highlighting the data controller’s responsibilities and will briefly compare the nFADP’s requirements with those of the GDPR.

Defending Critical Infrastructures

Switzerland depends on the continuous functioning of critical infrastructures. How is the security of national economic supply related to cyber risks? How can we ensure that critical infrastructures recognize and combat cyber threats and support them to become more resilient? Nathalie Gratzer's speech will be an insight and outlook from the federal perspective. Davide Lenzarini will be talking about end-to-end Message-based security vs Session-based security in scenarios having massive number of constrained battery-operated IoT devices using 3GPP NB-IoT or Non-Terrestrial Networks, based on LEO satellites with proprietary protocols (high latency and low bandwidth). His talk will list pros and cons of the two approaches.

The analysis and the management of the risk is an essential step that should be performed by every organization. This step shouldn’t be considered as standard, but it could change based on the typology of the industries, the location and the regulation to which the business could be subject to. During this panel, four representatives of four different Swiss industries will present how the Risk Management could change based on the context. Mauro Verderosa (PSYND) will interview Angelo La Penna (SwissRe), Laura Voicu (Elastic), Sylvian Ravot (Sygnum Bank), Julien Chesaux (EHL)

Application Security

Smartphones have been adopted in all aspects of our lives. The past two years only accelerated this momentum. This transition also (re)introduces its own risks, as smartphones are largely unmanaged and the device security security doesn't necessarily address application security. We will explore the potential threats, targets and attacker methods. To finalize we will discuss the different options application developers have to secure their applications and common best security practices.

During the next presentation we will get answers to the following questions:
- How to get a grip on the attack surface for large organisations that work in a very decentralised and varied environment. Tooling and methodologies used in SSDLC.
- How are we tackling the issues that are popping up in the environment? Using industry standards (SAMM, threat modeling, etc.)
- What we are seeing (Common type of vulnerabilities)

After that we will talk about how to do AppSec in the Hyperledger environment, what to audit and use to make the development of Smart Contracts with Golang something safe over time. We will have a look at the adding Threat Modeling tools to pipelines, and how you should build your BDAST (Blockchain Dynamic Application Security Testing).

Building a Culture of Security

Employees are an important part of a cybersecurity system but most experts see them as the weakest link. To successfully protect an organization we need a human firewall but to create it we need conscious users armed with the main tool – knowledge. They should know how to recognize attacks and how to react to them. That’s why we should concentrate on building within the organization's culture of enablement rather than a culture of fear. Employees should feel that they are the strong link. We will be speaking about compliance and regulation requirements, and in which way we can be aligned as companies to those if we compleate a cybersecurity awareness program. On the other hand we will be presenting industry best practices and hands-on advice on how to build a strong cybersecurity culture.

Securing the Cloud

Cloud security is one of the fastest areas of cybersecurity, which is projected to grow to a 68.5 billion dollar industry in the next five years, more than doubling its current market worth. On a high level, it consists of four important pillars: workload security, network protection, identity management and compliance.
These can be divided in multiple smaller fields and also extended in time, because the essence of this field is keeping up with our current fast-growing environment and making cloud usage as viable in terms of security as traditional data centers.

Application and Mobile security

Application security is the practice of developing and testing secure applications, which protect user data within the software itself, not just relying on its hosting infrastructure. Common practices to achieve this goal are using authentication, authorization, encryption and different kinds of application security testing methods such as SAST, DAST and IAST. Mobile security is a newer field of focus in this category, which is growing rapidly. It includes assessing applications for security issues in the different mobile platforms and frameworks, while general mobile device security can be also categorized in this area.

Cybersecurity Audit

A well performed cybersecurity audit can be your checkmark for security, and gives you guidance on how to plan your cybersecurity strategy.
Our world is changing faster than ever before.
As well as the global health crisis, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is here with its emerging technologies to disrupt our lives.
How can you, with your security and audit skills, help the world and our future?
With the growing interconnectivity, and heavy reliance on third parties to either connect, access, host, or develop/ maintain systems, the risk to the organization increases multi-fold. It is no longer possible to be in a bubble or isolate in today’s sophisticated business environment. Efficiencies and effectiveness are achieved through focussing on the core competencies and business and leveraging on vendors and solutions to optimize.
The role of Internal Audit as an independent function is becoming more important in an era where organizations rapidly growing or looking for cost-cutting or downsizing, where the focus is on the business interests and the technical aspects are generally ignored. Internal audit serves as an ally in ensuring the risks are constantly identified, assessed, evaluated, and mitigated to an acceptable level. With the data protection laws and regulations in place, Internal Audit is often called upon to review the organization’s program for compliance.
The presentation will be an introduction to the internal auditor role in the organization, audit planning, execution, audit findings, and deliverables to the auditees and management, with emphasis on the Cyber Security audits.

Ransomware

Ransomware is a blanket term used to describe a class of malware that is used to digitally extort victims into payment, of a specific fee. In this presentation, we want to give you a high-level introduction to the concept of ransomware and then dig deeply into the methods you would take to protect yourself from this scourge.
Cybercriminals are increasingly seeing opportunities to enter the market and looking to make a quick buck via one of the many ransomware offerings available via illicit economies. In addition, a basic appeal of ransomware is simple: it’s turnkey. Unlike many other forms of cyberattacks, ransomware can be quickly and brainlessly deployed with a high probability of profit.
